This blog is dedicated to the development of artworks in an evolving series consisting of location / landscape photography, mixed media painted photographs, collagraph relief prints and even more creative visions from the mind of artist Tanya Murphy Dodd. She continues to explore her African American heritage in the American south and progresses her journey to include the great escapes, glorious migrations and productive integrations into the American north.

THE ARTIST & HER PROCESS:
TANYA MURPHY DODD photographer/painter was born (1965) in Philadelphia, PA; African-American history, culture, are frequent themes expressed in her artworks. Tanya received her B.F.A. in Photography from Tyler School of Art (Temple University) in 1988 and studied painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
Dodd's environmental photography is consistently at the root of her creativity. Making beautiful black and white photographs that explore the landscapes and artifacts from her heritage is just the beginning. She creates contemporary mixed media art. These artworks incorporate various layered media like figurative collage relief, acrylic paint, vinyl, wood and found objects with her original photographs. She also utilizes vintage, alternative photo sensitive chemicals which are applied to paper and other substrates. Most notably she enjoys creating with her hand-made (4x5-inch film) pinhole box camera to "draw with light". Dodd first began hand painting her photographs in 1996. After eleven years of shaping her talents, she developed a unique style of layered mixed media art.
